IN HIM:
What is it to be “in Christ” to have the relationship that God the Father desires to have with us and calls everyone to have with him and with our Lord Jesus?
Here is a breakdown of the verses that have the words, “in him”, “in God”, “in the Lord” and “in Christ” along with highlights of what we as disciples experience in our relationship with God the Father and our Lord Jesus, the give and take that exists with any relationship.
At the end of each verse a summation of this is written in bold, marked with “>>” at the beginning.

The use of “>” = “leads to” or “should lead to” as a response. Such as my faith in Christ “leads to” Christ forgiving me of my sins > which leads to I becoming a member of God’s household.

Example:
> If I am in Christ > “leads to” I become a new creation > “leads to” being reconciled to God the Father and my sins are not counted against me > “should leads to” Christ’s love compels me to live for him and not myself. (2 Cor 5:14-19)
At the end of the collection of verses is a condensed list showing these together.

The reaction of people in most of these verses is one of either belief in God/Christ or trust in God/Christ.
I hope this opens your eyes to more of what we have being “in Christ” and will encourage you to respond even more as you learn the rich blessing and depth of fellowship that is ours being “in him”, than before. Enjoy.

>>Believing in the Lord Jesus > receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 18 In Corinth: (v1-17)

I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”

19 I (Paul) am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. 20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[Ps 44:22]

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
>>Nothing in all creation shell separate me from the love of Christ > we are “more than conquerors through him who loved us”

30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal. 32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone. 33 As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

1 Cor 1 Thanksgiving: (v4-9)
4  I (Paul) always thank my God for you because of his grace given you (the Corinthian church) in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way--with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge--

1 Cor 1 Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom: (v18-31)
27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
>>The foolish, weak, despised things of the world are lifted up by God > me not relying on or trusting worldly things > me looking to Christ for my righteousness, holiness and redemption in him.

1 Cor 7 Concerning Change of Status: (17-24)
21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave.
>>Becoming Christ’s slave > be free from sin.

1 Cor 15 The Resurrection of the Dead: (v12-34)

>>Being in Christ > all being made alive.

1 Cor 15 The Resurrection Body: (v35-58)
55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”[Hosea 13:14]
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
>>Jesus has given me victory of death through himself > me standing firm > always giving myself to the work of the Lord.

2 Cor 1 Paul’s Change of Plans: (v12-24)

21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,
>> The Promises of God are all true in Christ > I can stand firm in Him > being
   anointed by him.

2 Cor 2 Ministers of the New Covenant: (v12-17)
14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task? 17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
>>As a captive in Christ > I am used to spread the knowledge of him > makes me a “pleasing aroma of Christ”

2 Cor 3 The Greater Glory of the New Covenant: (v7-18)
13 We (Apostles) are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their (the Israelites’) minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it (the veil) taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate [or reflect on] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
>>Turning to the Lord > the veil is taken off the heart > I being transformed into his image, with ever-increasing glory through the Spirit.

2 Cor 5 The Ministry of Reconciliation: (v11-21)
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, (then) the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
>> If I am in Christ > I become a new creation > reconciled to God the Father through Christ > my sins are not counted against me. > Christ’s love compels me to live for him and not myself.

2 Cor 5:21 God made him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
>>Jesus was made to be sin for me > so I could become the “righteousness of God”

2 Cor 10 Paul’s Defense of His Ministry: (v1-18)
17 But, “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” 18 For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
>>My boasting in the Lord > being commended by him.

Gal 2 Paul Opposes Cephas: (v11-21)
15  “We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles 16 know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.
Faith in Jesus > being justified before him

Gal 2 Paul Opposes Cephas: (v11-21)
20 I (Paul) have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
>> Faith in Christ > me being crucified with him > Christ lives in me.

Gal 3 Children of God: (v23-29)
23 Before the coming of this faith,  we (Apostles) were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
>> Faith in Christ > me becoming a child of God >
Being baptized into Christ > being clothed with Christ. Made equal with all
disciples, and become a part of Abraham’s seed (family)

Eph 1 Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ: (v3-14)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us (disciples) in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he (God) chose us (disciples) in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
>>God’s blessing through Christ >“chosen” to be “holy” and “blameless”

Eph 1 Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ: (v1-14)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
>> Blessed with ever spiritual blessing in Christ > Praising God the Father.

Eph 1 Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ: (v1-14)
7 In him (Christ) we (disciples) have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,  9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,
>>God’s grace > redemption, forgiveness of sins > knowing the mystery of his will.

Eph 1 Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ: (v1-14)
11 In him we were also chosen,[or were made heirs] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
>> Hope in Christ > being chosen or were made heirs > for the praise of his glory
Hearing the message of truth, the gospel of salvation > believing, being marked
    with the Holy Spirit.

Eph 2 Made Alive in Christ: (v1-10)
6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
>>I am raised up with Christ, seated with him in the heavenly realms > in the coming ages he may show the incomparable riches of his grace, kindness to us.

Eph 2 Made Alive in Christ: (v1-10)
10 For we (disciples) are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
>>Being created in Christ > disciples are God’s handiwork > doing good works prepared for us.

Eph 2 Jews and Gentile Reconciled through Christ: (v11-22)
13 But now in Christ Jesus you (sinful man) who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
>>The Blood of Christ > brought me close to God.

Eph 2 Jew and Gentile Reconciled Through Christ:
17 He (Christ) came and preached peace to you (gentiles) who were far away and peace to those (Jews) who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
>>Christ’s message of: peace with God the Father > have access to the Father through the Holy Spirit.

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.
22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
>>Christ preached peace > me having access to the God the Father > me no longer being a foreigner and stranger but now a citizen with God, a member of his household, joined together to be a holy temple in the Lord and a dwelling for the Spirit of God to live in.
Eph 3 God’s Marvelous Plan for the Gentiles: (v1-13)
6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
>> Christ’s promise > Gentiles are heirs with Israel, part of the one body.

Eph 3:12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
>Faith in Christ > I may approach the Father in freedom & confidence.

Eph 4 Instructions for Christian Living: (v17-32)
17 So I (Paul) tell you (the church) this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
>>Being in the Lord > no longer living in the futility of my thinking.

Eph 4 Instructions for Christian Living: (v17-32)
21 when you (Ephesians) heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
>>The truth is found in Jesus.

Eph 4 Instructions for Christian Living: (v17-32)
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
>> God forgave me > me being kind and compassionate to each other, forgiving.

Eph 5: 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. 8 For you (Ephesian disciples) were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
>>Being on guard against being deceived by empty (false) words, not becoming partners with them as in the past > now being a light in the Lord.

Eph 6: 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
>>Honor your parents in the Lord > so that it may go well with you and you may enjoy long life.

Eph 6 The Armor of God: (v10-20)
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
>>To be strong in the Lord > me putting on the full armor of God > me standing against the devil’s schemes, stand my ground through; His righteousness, truth, peace, salvation and the word of God.

Philip 1 Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel: (v12-26)
14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.
>>The example of Paul being chained because of the Gospel > me having greater confidence in the Lord > proclaim the gospel without fear.

Phil 1 Life Worthy of the Gospel: (v27-30)
29 For it has been granted to you (disciples in Philippi) on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,
>>Belief in Christ > suffering for him.

Philip 3 No Confidence in the Flesh: (v1-14)
1 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence.
>>The Lord is a safeguard for me > me rejoicing in him.
We are the circumcision who serve God > me boasting in Christ.

Philippians 3 No Confidence in the Flesh: (v1-14)
2 Watch out for those dogs (those who want to impose the Law on gentiles), those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we (disciples) who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh--
>> I am the circumcision > serving God by his Spirit > not boasting in the flesh
     > boasting in Christ.

Phil 3 No Confidence in the Flesh: (v1-14)
8 What is more, I (Paul) consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
>>Paul considered everything gained in the world to be lost > to gain Christ, be found in him and to gain righteousness through faith
Philippians 4 Final Exhortations: (v4-9)
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
>>The peace of God will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus > not being anxious about anything > the peace of God will guard my heart and mind in Christ

Philippians 4 Final Exhortations: (v4-9)
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
>>My heart and mind are guarded by Christ > having the peace of God

Philippians 4 Thanks for Their Gifts: (v10-20)
19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
>>The Glory of Christ > all my needs will be meet.

Col 1 The Supremacy of the Son of God: (v15-23)
15 The Son (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
>>In Christ all things were created > all things hold together through him.

Col 2 Spiritual Fullness in Christ: (v6-15)
6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,
7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
>>Receive Christ as Lord > live my life in him, being rooted and built up in him and strengthened > being overflowed with thanksgiving.

Col 2 Spiritual Fullness in Christ: (v6-15)
9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you (disciples) have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ,
>>In Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives > Christ able to bring me to fullness as well through spiritual circumcision > my no longer being ruled by the flesh.

Col 3 Living as Those Made Alive in Christ: (v1-17)
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
>> Being raised with Christ > me setting my heart on things above.
1 Thess 4 Living to Please God: (v1-12)
1 As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified (set apart as or declare holy): that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.
>>In the Lord > me living in order to please God. > avoiding sexual immorality, passionate lust, not wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister.

1 Thess 5 Final Instructions: (v12-28)
15  Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
>> God’s will for us > Always strive to do good for all, rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances.

2 Thess 1 Thanksgiving and Prayer: (v3-12)
12 We (Paul) pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I glorify the Lord Jesus > He in turn glorifies me.

2 Thess 3 Warning Against Idleness: (v6-15)
11 We (Apostles) hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.
>>Being in the Lord > not being idle or disruptive but > being settled and earning my own food.

1 Tim 1 The Lord’s Grace to Paul: (v12-17)
13 Even though I (Paul) was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
>>Faith in Christ > God’s grace poured out in abundance.

1 Tim 1 The Lord’s Grace to Paul: (v12-)
15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I (Paul) am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.
>>Christ showed mercy to Paul, the worse of sinners > others might see his “immense patience” > believing in him and receiving eternal life.

2 Tim 1 Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the Gospel: (v6-14)
9 He (Christ) has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
>>The Grace of Christ > being called to a holy life > for his purpose.

2 Tim 1 Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the Gospel: (v6-14)
13 What you heard from me (Paul), keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
>> Faith and live in Christ > keeping to sound teaching.

2 Tim 2 The Appeal Renewed: (v1-13)
10 Therefore I (Paul) endure everything for the sake of the elect (disciples), that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
>>To help others obtain the salvation found in Christ > endure everything

2 Tim 3 A Final Charge to Timothy: (v10-17)
12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
>>Living a godly life in Christ > being persecuted.

2 Tim 3 A Final Charge to Timothy: (v10-17)
15 and how from infancy you (disciples) have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
>> Faith in Christ > becoming wise for salvation

Philemon 1 Thanksgiving and Prayer: (v3-11)
4 In all my (Paul’s) prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus.
>>Faith in the Lord > love for all his holy people.

Heb 2 Jesus Made Fully Human: (v5-18)
11 Both the one (Christ) who makes people holy and those (disciples) who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers (disciples) and sisters. 12 He says,
“I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
in the assembly I will sing your praises.” (Ps 22:22)

13 And again,
“I will put my trust in him.”(Is 8:17)

And again he says,
“Here am I, and the children God has given me.”(Is 8:18)
>>Jesus makes me holy, makes me a part of one family in him, > Jesus is not ashamed to call me his brother > I will gladly declare his name to brothers and sisters.

Heb 3 Warning Against Unbelief: (v7-19)
14 We (disciples) have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
>>Holding to my original convictions to the end > Sharing in Christ

1 Peter 1 Praise to God for a Living Hope: (v3-12)
8 Though you (disciples) have not seen him (Jesus), you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
>>Love and belief in Jesus > being filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy because of the salvation of my soul.

1 Peter 2 The Living Stone and a Chosen People: (v4-10)
6 For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
>>Trusts in him > never be put to shame

1 Peter 5 To the Elders and the Flock: (v1-11)

>> Being called to Christ’s eternal glory > suffering for a little while for him > being restored, made strong, firm and steadfast.

1 John 2 Love and Hatred for Fellow Believers: (v3-11)
4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, (then) love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
>>My claim that I am in Christ > I must live as Jesus did.

God’s Children and Sin:
28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him (Christ) at his coming.
>>By continuing to live in Christ > I will have confidence and not be ashamed before him.

1 John 3: 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[or made known] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
>>All who hope in Christ > purifying themselves > us becoming children of God.
Christ came to take away my sins > me living in him and giving up my sinning.

1 John 3 More on Love and Hatred: (v11-24)
23 And this is his (God’s) command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
>>Believe in Jesus > me keeping God’s commands to live in Christ > Christ living in me through the gift of the Spirit.

1 John 5 Concluding Affirmations: (v13-21)
18 We (Apostles) know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
>>Being children of God > gaining understanding of Christ who is the true God and eternal life.

2 She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord, she does not draw near to her God.

2 Kings 18 Sennacherib Threatens Jerusalem: (v17-37) Syrian field commander says
30 Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the Lord when he says, ‘The Lord will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’

31 “Do not listen to Hezekiah. This is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then each of you will eat fruit from your own vine and fig tree and drink water from your own cistern, 32 until I come and take you to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey. Choose life and not death!
“Do not listen to Hezekiah, for he is misleading you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’

Gal 5 Freedom in Christ:
1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4 You (Jews) who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit we (disciples) eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we (disciples), though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

1 Cor 1 Christ Crucified is God’s Power and Wisdom: (v18-31)
26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.30 It is because of him (God the Father) that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

1 Cor 15 The Resurrection of the Dead: (v12-34)
13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, (then) our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, (then) your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.
19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, (then) we are of all people most to be pitied.

Rev 14 The Three Angels: (Three Judgments on the World) (v6-13)
9  A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” 12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.
